Fascia Board is the exposed horizontal band you see at the end of the rafters and the wood your gutters are fixed to. Fascia is the term given to the horizontal board that is fixed along the rafter ends at the eaves, closing the gap between each rafter. Traditionally made of 3/4″ or 1″ thick timber.
Because it is typically wood it can also root behind your gutters where you can’t see it. If you have gutters that seem to be falling off it is typically because of rotted fascia boards and this needs to be checked and possibly replaced with gutters.
You can also have your wood fascia wrapped in aluminum to prevent this from happening.
The soffit is located on the span beneath the fascia. As you can also see from above it can make a big difference replacing your soffit to the aesthetics of your home. If gutters are leaking and rotting the fasica it can also start to rot your soffit. This is a sign of water damage and could be leading or already even closer to also damaging your roof and even the inside of your home.
